Question by : Is this subplot worth it?
I’m an aspiring writer… I’ve written one book (the kick-start of an incomplete series) called The Last Light. The story is about a 13-year-old boy named Jay fighting for light matter in a war between light and darkness for control of the universe. But that’s not quite why I’m here. The first book features a subplot, another POV, centering around Jay’s friend Ryan, another 13-year-old with less involvement in the war. I’m a little unsure about the future of this subplot, not it’s events, but if I should give it the ax or not. So let me describe it in more detail.

Spoiler alert.

At the start of the story, Jay is nearly killed by a middle-aged violent man named Edward, but Ryan, a police officer (an unstable U.S. has resorted to putting teenagers to work), saves him just in time. That’s when the two POVs split. While Jay’s off doing his thing (I’m trying to give away as little as possible), Ryan takes Edward back to the station, where he suddenly dies of apparent poisoning after calling and talking to a mysterious man (later revealed to be Jay’s enemy). A confused Ryan finds a map in Edward’s pants that was directing Edward to meet up with this man in a nearby town. Ryan and his crush, Lisa, are assigned to the case. Howdistracted gets distarcted ogling over Lisa while driving and gets lost.

Then the choppy moment, the one that makes me hate this subplot, comes. Ryan and Lisa stay in an inn in (haha) the middle of nowhere, with only one room vacant. So while in the room together, they confess their feelings for each other, in the worst three words in The Last Light: “I love you.” Hm. So a relationship ensues.

Once they hit the road again, a black hole begins consuming the earth (tying it loosely with Jay), and their car is lifted into space, but comes to a sudden stop, because Jay’s presence in the car is too strong. Ryan then realizes that Jay is deeply entrenched in the earth’s black hole problem, and that Jay is the only one who can save everything, and he vows to help Jay if he lives to tell the tale of being suspended in space.

They spend a good chunk of the story there after that, and Jay gets the vast majority of attention. But their suspension is disturbed when several bodies making their way to the black hole ram into the car and cause it to tumble backmiraculouslyey micraculously impact their original destination, but Ryan barely survives, and Lisa dies mad at Ryan. Ryan then goes back to his and Jay’s hometown to avenge Lisa’s death, as that is the only possible way he can ever find Jay, even though the chances are slim.

That’s when his POV ceases. He does end up finding Jay and saves him from a thrown dagger, throwing himself in the way. Ryan’s good intentioned and selfless death gives Jay motivation to save the universe, and to find an alternative to his original manner of doing so, which was destroyed.

So. Should I expand the subplot? Keep it as it is? Fix the choppy parts but leave the rest of it? Eliminate it but keep Ryan? Erase Ryan from the story altogether? Anything else? I’m pretty open to advice.
For clarification, the black hole is the entire point of the first book. Jay, The Last Light, has enough power to slow down its effect, but he spends the story looking for a permanent solution. The science is being toyed with. And yes, this sideplot is kinda short.

I think this depends on the rest of your story. If it’s already long and complicated, adding in this really rather irrelevant sideplot is unnecessary. If it’s rather short, having a sideplot might help, especially since Ryan does come back into the main plot eventually.

I’d make him a lot older, though. Why would even an “unstable US” have a small boy as a policeman, paired with presumably an even smaller girl? Surely a bare minimum requirement would be adult size and strength? Why would your 13 year old kid be confessing feelings for anyone? Why would he have a car? How would he have the physical capability to do most of the things you have him do?

You also need to stop throwing around the names of real scientific concepts if you’re simply going to ignore what they really are. If “a black hole begins consuming the earth”, the Earth ceases to exist a fraction of a second later. There is no rest of story.

Question by : How was there evening & morning the 1st day if there was no sun or stars?
Genesis 1:1-5 describes the first day of creation (“let there be light…”), and after the first day it says “and there was evening, and there was morning, after the first day.” How could there have been evening and morning if the sun & stars had not been created until day 4? Where did this “light” come from since all sources of light in the universe come from stars? The bible doesn’t give the source of this light, so don’t say “it came from God” …because it will have no biblical foundation. Plants were created on day 3, but how could they survive without photons from the sun to drive photosynthesis?

I was turning right on a red light on my way to church. I believe that i stop and i have my pasenger to prove it. Me and him believe that we stop then turn right for that there is no sign “no turn right with red light.” i know there is a cop behind me about 100-150ft thats why i know i have to stop carefully.. However the cop pulled me over and said i did not stop but he said he just saw me slowed down… He gave me a ticket i got the mail and it is over 500 dollars… I don’t know why it came up that much for it should only be around 400:( on the ticket the cop put the wrong information. He put the previous owner of the car in the ticket as the owner of the car instead of me… Its crazy because i gave him my registration and my name is in there… I am ticking of making an appeal about this because i just dont wanna pay for the things that i believe i did not do… The time i got pulled over the cop ask me for my insurance, i gave it to him but i dont have the updated proof of insurance, but my car is insured .. He said i might get a ticket for that but he did not get a ticket for that instead gave me a warning to get an updated one.. Do i have a change of wining for that i have my passenger as my witness and that the cop put the wrong information in the ticket? Thank u..

I would get updated insurance proof before you bring this to court, just to be sure. It wouldn’t hurt to try and appeal this if you truly believe you did the right thing. I don’t know what your chances are, it is really up to the judge-but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot. Good luck.

Oops — “swirled” may have been a poor choice of words there. How about “floated”? Nope. “Surfaced”? Oooh — even worse, in terms of irony. “Come to light”? OK, now I’m just being obtuse. “Beset”? Yes, that’s better.

Youth is no defense. John Roberts was 26 years old when he wrote the documents that Kennedy demands on behalf of the Senate. Kennedy was 36 when he drove Mary Jo Kopechne off a bridge.

If the Senate needs to know what Roberts thought about the law at age 26, then the Senate certainly needs to know what Kennedy thought about the law at age 36, when he drowned a girl and then spent the rest of the evening concocting an alibi instead of calling the police.

Question by : Converting to Christianity for him?
So theres this guy (typical lol)
We have a sort of platonic relationship-minus sitting together,hugging.
But hes a strict Christian and said he couldn’t date me because christians can’t date non-Christians.
He’s going into the navy soon and I want to convert for him..
I explained that I believe in god but I don’t want to worship him,
And he comes back with his typical “what if there’s a hell and you don’t get saved etc..”
I don’t want to fake for him but I see no reason to worship god…
And I can’t stand when people talk about seeing the “light” and believing…
I believe but should I worship?
Quote- “if you go to church does that make you a christian?
If you sit in a garage does that make you a car?”
This question is basically should i try for him?
He’s a good guy really..your answers seem so heart felt
I should have added this. I don’t view religion as a big part of my life and I know he’s looking out for me because it would make him happy to know i was okay (I.e:saved)

Honestly I believe god exist but I have no reason to worship, there’s a god but I dont need to prey and hope for and answer and I dont feel like I need any devine force behind me.
Hamza I’ve never really been any religion.
My whole family is chistian and I guess I only bought it cuz when I was little I was drug to church and told god will save u…
I never really thought it was a big deal though, like I want to live for me and not for god..
But I guess christians wouldn’t lyk that…
I thought about it while I was younger and my parents said religion was something I had to figure put on my own and they would acept my choice…
Sorry I’m rambling on about nothing..
Gunsrfun Idc about religion but I don’t want to lie to him about this..
I want a reason I should try to become a Christian….

I’m sure we’ll get though this and he’ll except my choice when I make it.

Van Halen’s ‘Pretty Woman’ w/Chroma Key by Hillel Steinberg (car accessories lights)

This is a video I made of me playing Van Halen’s “Pretty Woman” using the Chroma Key method for the overlay. The drums and base are not me, but the electric guitar is me all the way through. The stills in the background are relavant family and relatives from my portfolio collection. The overlay is achieved by using the chroma key method. I recorded a video of myself playing the song in front of the green chroma key screen, with the guitar and background pumped wirelessly (UHF transmitter) into the Audacity software on a laptop. The shirt is from Van Halen’s tour this year at the Verizon center. Later, Pinnacle’s Studio 11 was used to combine and synchronize the stereo 16-bit audio with the video using the chroma key overlay technique. Four halogen lights were used to illuminate the chroma key screen – careful to avoid shadow cast by carefully aligning them behind me. The video and audio are not perfect. In particular, the laptop could not keep up well with the audio – causing crackling. But, this is good enough for my second attempt.

trying to rebuild my new channel so what better way then to kick it off with some crawlin videos. IM driving the white & orange scorpion and my son is driving the silver rubicon. I had to quit filming myself due to a high link coming off. specs on the trucks are as followed. Beautiful car! Great color scheme…black and white, that is carried over into the interior. Exhaust exits via ports beneath the bumpers..one spectator noted that was a feature of the 56 model. But there is no doubt this is a 55 Mercury. The driving lights in the bumper are very useful too…unusual for the time.
